1962

Philip A. L. Robinson journeys and leaves his country of England on February 19, 1962 to start and lead Tubman Thurlow’s meat sales as the new U.S. Director of Sales in New York City.

1964

In 1964 he travels to Central America expanding the meat company’s reach and scale.  He also starts taking Spanish speaking lessons.

Born and raised in Nicaragua Raul Cabrales Ebanks was directing Ingenio Azucarero in his home country providing leadership for +10 year. Throughout the mid to late 70’s he helped International and Nicaraguan companies export their products.

1965

On April 4-June 25, 1965 Phil travels to Costa Rica, Panama, Nicaragua and Puerto Rico continuing the brand expansion and developing long lasting new relations with new meat suppliers.
 
On Nov. 20 1965, given Europe’s shortage of meat, Tupman Thurlow starts selling poultry among other things to Honk Kong.

1966

Beginning in Dec 1965 Phil travels to Puerto Rico, repeatedly, to re-route cargo from one ship to another in the San Juan harbor based on new partnerships created in Central America for U.S. bound companies.
 
In June 10, 1966 Phil meets with Frenchman Monsieur Amiels & Puerto Rico business owner to open his own brokerage meat business.

1967

In November 1966 Phil is presented with a new agreement by Frenchman, to lead as President a new corporation which he called “Robinson Inter-American Corporation located in New York’s Grand Central Station Bldg on the 6th Floor.  He enters into 1 year agreement with frenchman and  Puerto Rican J.R. Nieves Company and begins selling 1 million pounds of frozen boned meats every 10 days from Central America.
 
As a result of his partnership, worldwide connections and business success in brokering large meat deals he decides to relocate permanently to the island of Puerto Rico in 1967 and establish his permanent business roots on the island.

On October 3, 1967 he leads International Commodities Inc as its President establishing frozen warehouse space.
 
On February 1970 he is asked to lead Delicias Food Products Inc as its President.

1974

From July 9, 1974 – November 1989 Phil opens his own company called San Juan Brokerage Co. where he represents frozen meat and other products and leads it as the President for 15 years.

 

It’s here where Sonia, his wife, joins the family business to support the business operations and run the accounting department.

In 1986 Raul Cabrales leaves Nicaragua with family and relocates in San Juan Puerto Rico where he manages responsibilities for import and distribution of Plastic Group PR.

It is here where JC & AC begin life long friendship based on strong family business bonds.

1987

Starting in 1987 JC, the youngest son also begins working part time in the family organization learning delivery, logistics, warehousing and merchandising practices. It’s how JC’s passion and love for the food and beverage industry was born.

1989

On Dec 6, 1989 Phil renames the organization to Meatco Inc and begins not only representing brands but now importing, warehousing, wholesaling and delivering meat and frozen food products.

1990

In 1990 Raul opens his own representation, import and distribution company called International Trading Corp. During this time AC begins working in the family business to learn import and export business strategies and overall business entrepreneurship.

In 1992 JC begins his corporate career with Pepsico learning all the market experiences of the Consumer Packaged Goods industry and the FMCG category.

In 1996 AC relocates to Singapore to continue building his international career helping brands import their products into Asia and helping Asian brands get exposure all over North and South America.

In 2003 AC relocates from Asia to Mexico to be closer to the import and export demands for the brands represented.

2003

In 2003 JC joins the Campbell’s Soup Co organization developing extensive sales, marketing, manufacturing and logistic knowledge of distributor networks in several new food categories including Pepperidge Farm bakery and snacks products.

In 2014 JC relocates to FL and joins the Coca-Cola Company expanding his beverage corporate knowledge and experiences with one of the largest non alcoholic brands worldwide.

Beginning in 2012 AC begins representing and exporting Mexican Tequila and other spirit brands all over the world.

2016

From 2016-2021 Phil moves to Florida to live with JC to transition company to th US and begin his retirement while being cared for given signs of early onset Alzheimer’s.

 

 

During Phil’s last few years, JC was able to absorb all the remaining wisdom from his most admired mentor to ensure he could continue to carry the family torch for decades to come.

In 2020 the family business was re-launched and Savvy Palate was created in the U.S. to carry on the family tradition of representing food and beverage products in North America.

2021

In 2021 Sebastian Colón, JC’s son, joins the family business to help bring focus and specialized attention to support the Spirit brands being represented in the marketplace by Savvy Palate.
